CPR/AED Class
The Red Cross CPR/AED class will help you to identify the signs of cardiac arrest. This class will train you on how to perform rescue breathing, how to handle an obstructed airway, CPR, and use an Automatic Defibrillator on an adult, child, and infant. The CPR/AED certificate is valid for two years.

Lifeguard Certification
The Red Cross material includes CPR and First Aid. Students will receive 2 certifications if they pass all tests (LG/First Aid and CPR/AED), plus receive a Lifeguard Training book and pocket mask. Requirements for the class include: Good attendance, must be 15 years of age, pass written by 80% and meet swimming requirements. The course is a fun way to enhance your swimming skills and increase your employment potential. Lifeguard/First Aid and CPR/AED are 2-year certifications.
Prerequisites:
- Jump into the water and totally submerge, resurface, then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Then, tread water for 2 minutes only using your legs. (Arms must be crossed on your chest or up in the air.) Once the treading is complete you much swim 50 yards using front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both.
- Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive and retrieve 10 lb. object, return to surface and swim 20 yards back to starting point in 1 min. 40 sec.
PLEASE NOTE: Class on Monday, March 24th includes travelling to the Family YMCA of Northwest Illinois in Freeport around 2:30 p.m. in order to complete the deep water portion of training. Some students may be able to ride with the instructor, provided they have signed parent permission.

Lifeguard Re-certification
Re-certification typically only takes 1-2 days of the regular full Lifeguard Certification. One of those days will be a full day of class for review, testing, and the CPR portion.
