Blaze Tackle Football (6th-8th Graders)
What is our tackle football program?
YMCA Tackle Football is a (padded) tackle football program for players in grades 6-8. The 2025 season will be the 20th season at the Green County Family YMCA. In 2024, 94 players participated. Each team is capped at 25 participants due to league requirements. If there are enough players on the wait list, a second team will be created for that grade level.
When do we play?
At times throughout the course of the season, each team will be required to travel to another town for games. Games are primarily played on Saturdays.
How much time is involved?
YMCA Tackle Football is a “season specific” sport lasting three months, unlike other sports that play all year long. The season begins in early August and concludes about the third week of October. Teams practice four days a week in August and two days a week in September and October. Practices generally last about two hours.
What is the equipment/facility fee?
A one-time equipment/facility fee of $50.00 is required at the time of registration for Blaze Football. This fee helps pay for new equipment, including helmets, pads, etc. and pays a portion of facility rental costs. This fee is non-refundable. Additional fees will be assessed if equipment is not returned at the conclusion of the program.
Jerseys
Jerseys can either be purchased or rented. 2 jerseys are needed for the season. One red and one white.
5th Graders
The Blaze program is only open to athletes in grades 6-8, however, if there are not enough 6th graders to fill an entire team, 5th graders may be invited to join the team. If your 5th grader would like to participate in the Blaze tackle football program. Please send an email to [email protected] to have them placed on a 5th grade interest list.

Football Camp (5th-8th Graders)
Our camp is designed to prepare children for the Blaze Tackle Football Program. The Blaze program is open to children in grades 6-8. 5th graders may be invited to play on a Blaze Team if there are not enough 6th graders to fill an entire team. This camp will teach the fundamentals of the game including basic drills, stance formation and plays.
A $100 deposit is required for participants who are not enrolled in the Blaze Program. The deposit must be received prior to the 1st day of camp, in order for your child to participate.
The camp will take place on Thursday, July 31st from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 2nd from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
